Aug 1 - Aug 8 2008 Camp (age 12 - 13)

Aug 9 - Aug 16 2008 Camp (age 14 - 15)

Thank you for your interest in the Borrowdale summer camp.  We combine exciting new sports like paragliding with traditional adventure challenges such as climbing, canoeing, mountaineering and survival training, which conclude with a 2-day mountain expedition.

We are all local outdoor instructors, who know the mountains very well and are committed to making this a safe, rewarding and enjoyable camp for all.  Our aim is to give young people access to great adventures in Borrowdale, Britains most beautiful outdoor playground, and to encourage learning and respect of the countryside.

We will be camping in the beautiful Thwaitehouse  field near Watendlath, which is above Ashness wood and Moss Mire.  Tents are provided, food (breakfasts, packed lunches, and dinners, drinks and some snacks) plus all the great adventure activities.

The price for the week is £295.  We will receive the kids on the evening of the 25th July, 1st August and 9th August and we have designed some Ice breaking activities to make them feel more relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings. The course will end at 3pm on last evening, (31/8/16th).  Full joining instructions will be sent well in advance.

We are working closely with the National Trust, who take an active role in the education of young people on issues of conservation and protection of our environment.  Together we plan to raise awareness of the trust and our local countryside.

We have an enthusiastic team of male and female outdoor professionals who are experts in their fields of mountaineering, paragliding, climbing, sailing, mountain rescue, and kayaking.   All staff have been CRB checked.

We will be running programs of activities for three age groups divided up into 9, 10 and 11's, 12 and 13’s, and 14 and 15's.  Each group will have their own guides/ team leaders, to help establish continuity and encourage teamwork. Each week will have activities tailored towards the age range and ability of each group.  Experienced students should let us know in advance, to arrange some some taxing activities.

.

We have intentionally kept the camp small to ensure safety and the smooth running of all activities.  We would also like to assure parents that no activity is compulsory, they are designed to give a taste of each pursuit, in the hope that it sows the seed of interest that can be followed up.  We will actively assist the children to develop their interest and hope to run regular sessions in the future.  These activities can count towards scout activities and qualifications.

We have let the pictures speak for themselves but if you, children or parents, have any more questions, please feel free to call us anytime. We can also send you a DVD of the 2007 camp adventures filmed by Scott Ligertwood.
